Saratoga - day #34 (8/30) Curlin day selections

(86-320) $588.40

Race #1

Por Favor – longshot trainer John Fahey send out this runner who was last seen racing in the Claiming Crown at Canterbury Park on the grass, worth a shot at a price versus this group.
King Mobay – solid win in the mud here at this level and distance, would be no surprise.
Hawkinsville – disappointed last time out on a surface he loves, claimed by sharp connections out of that event.
Superfecta include: Delta Sea

Race #2

Offshore – no factor in debut on dirt downstate, has grass distance breeding but draws tough outside post.
Sharif Al Medina – good grass effort downstate on yielding course, finally gets a spot up here.
Whitley – Kentucky shipper had even effort last time out at Arlington, good grass breeding.
Superfecta include: Storm Harbor
MTO pick: Forest Echoes

Race #3

Benny Waiter – drops into statebred optional condition after winning n1x here, logical spot to go.
Rollers – won off-the-turf event last time out and finished behind top pick two back, tough to separate these two.
Benlayla – two straight 3rd place finishes, been kicking around in this condition for awhile.

Race #4

Chief Talkeetna - came back running off the shelf to break maiden impressively, claimed out of that race, hopefully doesn’t bounce off that effort.
T.J.’s Posse – not to be confused with C.J.’s Posse, Delaware shipper had faced tougher as a two year old, second off layoff.
Farleyshelonwheels – Dutrow brings this one off nearly nine month layoff, watch the board.
Superfecta include: Defrereoftheheart

Race #5

Moore Miles – just missed at this level last time out, trainer has got impressive stats on turf, routes and with claimers.
Calcutta Clipper – throw out last start in the mud, drops to this conditional spot.
Warn – gets much needed class drop, broke maiden over this course last summer.
Superfecta saver:: Jamaludin

Race #6

Western Fable – gets the call here after even effort in debut turf sprinting as the lukewarm favorite, bullet turf work.
French Action – Pletcher firster coupled with MTO Footnote This who becomes top pick if race comes off grass.
Gargantua – Sciacca first timer with bullet grass work on Monday, must use if draws in.
Saver: Benton Drive

Race #7

Nautical Storm – bet down in second start here and ran like a “good thing”, scratched from tougher spot a week ago (King’s Bishop).
Sammarco – weakened in much tougher spot last time out, bullet work for this easier test.
Sergeant Seattle – comes off Fall layoff, had one of the best efforts here as a 2yr.old last summer.
Saver: Understatement

Race #8

Speed Limit – second best in debut after rough start, improves today.
Just a Coincidence – finished right behind Munnings who will be racing in the Hopeful, entrymate Ruler’s Vision half brother to 2yr.old champion of last year; War Pass.
Pious David – gets blinkers on after eventful debut in off-the-turf debut, half to Momba.
Saver: Fast Draw

Race #9

Lucky Island – wired the field impressively in the grade II – Tom Fool at Belmont going this distance in the mud, inherits favoritism with Benny the Bull out.
Premium Wine (entry) – sharp victory over the track at this distance, 3rd behind top pick two back; you get Forefathers thrown in for good measure.
First Defence – 2nd best in the Vanderbilt prep race for this, may better this rating.
Saver: Real Estate

Race #10

Curlin (Best Bet) – reigning Horse of the Year and also dubbed as "The Coolest Colt in Creation" by some, he should handle this group….but stranger things have happen, here at the Spa.
Out of Control – very interesting addition to the race by Bobby Frankel, hasn’t seen the dirt since April ’07, wake-up call here?
Divine Park – winner 6 of 8 in career with two straight at the one mile distance, a question at the extra furlong.
Superfecta savers: Loose Leaf & Past the Point

Race #11

Casey’s Joy – even third off of layoff in off-the-turf event here, faced better on grass last summer.
Transit of Venus – just missed as favorite in last, back versus similar today.
Ground Hero – weakened going a bit longer at same level, an exotic must.
Dictina’s Boy (Longshot) – first time out for Tom Voss, drops in class off of winter layoff.
